Move Permits
A Moving Permit is required before a manufactured home is transported on Alabama highways. The permit must be obtained from the county official who administers manufactured home registrations.
Permit Fee and Duration
- The fee is $10 per manufactured home, regardless of the number of modules.
- A Moving Permit is valid for 14 calendar days.
- A separate permit is issued for each transportable module.
Before a permit can be issued, all applicable ad valorem taxes, registration and issuance fees, and penalties must be paid.
When a Moving Permit Is Not Required
A Moving Permit is not required for:
- Manufactured home dealers transporting a home that is part of their inventory or delivering a home sold from their inventory.
- Manufactured homes owned by dealers, manufacturers, or lien holders.
- Manufactured homes being transported into or through Alabama.
Transporters should carry proof of ownership or authorization, such as a tag, decal, bill of sale, bill of lading, or title, when a Moving Permit is not required.
Moving a Home Without a Permit
Moving a manufactured home without the required permit may result in a traffic citation and a Class C misdemeanor. Upon conviction, a fine of at least $50 may apply. A law enforcement officer in Alabama may issue the citation.
